Alejandro Olayo-Méndez is Assistant Professor at the Boston College School of Social Work. His expertise focuses on humanitarian aid, migration, and refugee issues, as well as questions regarding immigration, social justice, human rights, inequality, meso-level structures and the so-called “Migration Industry.” He developed his expertise by analyzing the interactions between migrants and humanitarian aid organizations along migration routes in Mexico and how these interactions shape the migratory processes in the region. 

He holds a DPhil in International Development and an MSc in Migration Studies from the University of Oxford, a Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, and a Master of Divinity (Theology) from Boston College. He has conducted research for Jesuit Service to Migrants and the US Jesuit Conference in India and Colombia. Apart from being a researcher, Alejandro is a Jesuit Catholic Priest.
