The study explores the health gap between migrants and citizens across Belgium, France, Spain and Italy. Using harmonised national health interview surveys, authors Yasser Moullan and Florence Jusot find that migrants report a poorer health status than natives in Belgium, France and Spain, but in Italy migrants consider their health better.
The findings reflect differences in both the health status of citizens and immigrants, which may also be explained by differences in health selection at migration and in immigrants’ integration.
