Mathias Czaika suggests that unequal societies are not necessarily more migratory, it depends on the type of inequality. He proposes two types of inequality across and within ethnic groups - horizontal and vertical - and argues that in this way inequality and relative deprivation can be a driver of, or barrier to migration.
