Linn Axelsson

Linn AxelssonLinn Axelsson is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Human Geography at Stockholm University. Her research interests include critical border studies, migration management and international trade regulation. Specifically, her research focuses on the ways in which the global circulation of people and products is shaped by, and shapes, systems of mobility control in diverse contexts including the textile trade in Ghana and labour migration to Sweden and the UK. Linn’s current research, funded by the Swedish Research Council, focuses on new spatial and temporal registers of power involved in labour migration management in three sectors of the Swedish labour market.

Roderick Galam

Roderick GalamRoderick G Galam is a Research Associate at the Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology, Free University of Berlin. His current research Working for Work, funded by the German Research Foundation, investigates how young Filipino men looking for work as seafarers in the global maritime industry transform servitude into a strategy that enables them to address unemployment and social exclusion. Framed within the political economy of sea-based labour migration in and from the Philippines, Working for Work examines the policies, practices, experiences and aspirations that collectively inform and shape young Filipino men’s attempts to secure their future in the context of persistent and widespread unemployment problems.

 

María Gutiérrez Portilla

Maria Gutierrez PortillaMaría Gutiérrez Portilla is studying for a PhD in Economics at the University of Cantabria in Migration and Labour Economics and holds a Pre-Doctoral Fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Education. She has taught at undergraduate level at the University of Cantabria. María holds a Master’s degree in Economic Analysis Tools (University of the Basque Country, University of Cantabria and University of Oviedo, 2013) and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics (University of Cantabria, 2012). Her research is largely focused on the phenomenon of migration in Spain. Specifically, she is studying the main determinants of internal migration, the effect of migration on the labour market and the impact of the current economic scenario.

 

Ivan Ureta

Ivan UretaIvan Ureta is a professor at IE University/Business School and at the University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, King’s College London. Ivan holds a PhD in Economic History (Deusto) and a PhD in International Relations (King’s College London). Ivan has worked as an Associate Professor at Sultan Qaboos University (Oman), where he was a founding faculty member of the department of Political Science. As a practitioner he has collaborated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Spanish (AECI), Peruvian (APCI) and Swiss (DSC) Agencies of Development and Cooperation, and the Permanent Mission of Spain to the UN in Geneva. He has published extensively on international migration, security, international political economy, socio-economic development, security and public discourse.
